Draft — not yet reviewed by an attorney. The data-privacy section below is modeled on Washington State's My Health My Data Act as a reasonable starting point, but hasn't been confirmed against every state's health-privacy law that may apply to our members. The health guidance section is general public information, not medical advice — see that section's own disclaimer.

Sexual Health & Data

Draft last updated: September 4, 2026 — pending legal review

Our stance: sexual health is a shared responsibility

Sway This Way exists because we believe consensual, adult, non-monogamous connection is something to celebrate, not hide from. Part of celebrating it well is taking sexual health seriously — for yourself and for everyone you connect with. On this platform, we treat sexual health as a responsibility every member shares, not an optional afterthought. That doesn't mean judgment or shame; it means honesty, preparation, and looking out for each other.

Practical guidance

  • Get tested regularly. If you're sexually active with more than one partner or your partners are, routine STI/STD testing — commonly recommended every 3 to 6 months, and always before and after a new partner — is one of the most effective things you can do for yourself and your community. Know your status before you need to know it.
  • Use protection. Barrier methods (condoms, dental dams, gloves) meaningfully reduce transmission risk for many STIs. Consider what protection makes sense for the activities you're engaging in, and don't be afraid to ask a partner to use it.
  • Talk about it before it matters. Share your testing status and any relevant history with a partner before you need to, not after. A community built on consent is also built on honest disclosure.
  • Know your options. PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) can significantly reduce the risk of HIV transmission for people at ongoing risk — ask a healthcare provider if it's right for you. Vaccines exist for some sexually transmitted infections, including HPV and Hepatitis A/B — talk to a provider about whether you're up to date.
  • It's okay to say not yet, or no. You're never obligated to proceed with anyone who won't share their status, won't use protection you've asked for, or otherwise makes you uncomfortable.

This is general public-health information, not medical advice. It isn't a substitute for care from a qualified healthcare provider, and it doesn't account for your individual health history. For testing locations, current CDC guidance, and personal medical questions, talk to a healthcare provider or visit cdc.gov/std.

Consumer health data — your privacy rights

  • We apply the visibility setting you choose (Public, Connections Only, or Private) to any field that may qualify as consumer health data, the same as any other profile field.
  • We do not use geofencing around any medical facility, clinic, or health care facility to identify or track members, or to collect consumer health data, or to send members any notification, message, or advertisement related to consumer health data.
