ID & Age Verification
Draft last updated: September 4, 2026 — pending legal review
How verification works today
Every Sway This Way member goes through two possible layers of verification:
1. Age self-attestation (required for every account)
At signup, every member enters a date of birth and affirmatively confirms they are 18 or older. This is required to create an account at all — there is no way to sign up without it.
2. Card verification (optional, unlocks additional features)
Members can additionally complete card verification: a real transaction processed through our payment processor, CCBill. A successful charge upgrades your account to "card verified" status, which is planned to gate additional features as they're built.
What card verification does — and doesn't — confirm
Successfully completing a card transaction confirms that you have access to a valid, working credit or debit card, and that CCBill's own underwriting and fraud checks did not block the transaction. Because a payment card is generally only issued to an adult, this provides a meaningful additional signal beyond self-attested date of birth alone.
It is not the same thing as formal government-issued identity verification. We do not, today, collect or verify a driver's license, passport, or other government ID as part of this process. If you're relying on this page to understand exactly what "verified" means for another member, that's the honest scope of it: an age-plausibility and fraud-deterrence signal tied to a successful card transaction, not a confirmed legal identity check.
If we learn an account holder is underage
Sway This Way is an adults-only platform with zero tolerance for underage use. If we discover or are notified that an account belongs to someone under 18 — regardless of what verification tier that account reached — we will immediately terminate the account, remove associated content, and report as required by applicable law.
